Cosmetics, makeup, and other small things can feminize the face, but there are certain bony characteristics that give the perception of a male or female face, that cannot be altered without surgery. Most women have softer and finer brow bones whereas men have a more prominent brow bone with a little indentation, as well as a super orbital ridge and frontal bone.

A great feminization technique that’s available with makeup is to use contouring to lift the brow and widen the eye. I do a lot of transgender facial feminization surgeries and have spoken at graduations where I showed pictures of just the eyes of a person wearing makeup. I then asked the audience if they could tell if the eyes were that of a man or woman. It was surprising how many could not tell.

How can I feminize my forehead?

To feminize the forehead we lift the brows and contour the brow bone, then bring the hairline forward because as some men age their hairline recedes a bit. Feminizing the forehead and the eyes sort of goes hand in hand.

How do I make my nose more feminine?

A feminine nose tends to be smaller and more refined, often more upturned than a male nose. When performing this surgery I first have a consultation to learn the patient’s goals. Some want a more natural-looking nose while others want it to be really small. I provide expectations on what can be achieved with their anatomy.

Do you have a question? Are you considering surgery to feminize your facial bones and your facial features? Come in and talk to me or let’s do it virtually. I believe that the consultation for any surgery, specifically this type of surgery, is really important. I hope to see you soon.
