The preparation for facial feminization is both mental and physical. For the physical aspects, I prepare my patients the same as I would for any surgery, based on their health status. The mental aspect of this surgery is more involved and depends on your state of mind and reasons for wanting this surgery. Some patients speak with a therapist to prepare for the change while others are more than excited to see the results.

How long does FFS or facial feminization surgery take to heal?

The length of time to heal from facial feminization surgery varies by person and is also based on which procedures have been performed. A patient will usually require one or more procedures that include an eyebrow lift, browbone reduction, nose job, contouring of the jawline, eyelid surgery, and a thyroid cartilage or tracheal shave. If a patient is just getting a lip lift or tracheal shave, their healing time will be shorter than someone who has had all of the above done at once, which will result in more swelling and bruising.

When should I get facial feminization surgery?

The timing of facial feminization surgery is a personal decision. It can be done at any time and it’s best to get a consultation to discuss your goals.

What can I eat after the surgery?

Whether or not you can eat after surgery depends on which procedures were performed. This is a great question to be addressed during a consultation and after surgery, you will be given post-operative instructions to follow.

I love doing facial feminization surgery. It’s a big part of my practice, and I feel very close to my patients who elect for this procedure. Facial feminization surgery makes a great change in people’s lives, and I like to be part of it.

If you have questions, please schedule a consultation. I’d love to see you in my office or talk to you virtually.
